Why St. Ignatius?

Why did my brother and I make a book about St. Ignatius of Loyola, of all people?!

So the short answer is that my brother and I are both stay at home parents now who used to teach at Jesuit schools, and St. Ignatius is the founder of the Jesuit order. We really loved learning about the spirituality of St. Ignatius when we were working at those schools, and we wanted to be able to share it with our kids.

While I was working on the book I was going through a time of being aware that there were a lot of things in my life that I wanted to make time for, and I needed like 40 more hours a week to make time for all of them. And one of the things I was really craving was just having more time for prayer, meditation, silence; just having some sort of centering experience where I felt connected to God and myself. And I think, like a lot of parents, I was struggling to figure out when to do that. And while I was working on the book I had this moment of insight: ok, what if I could read a book to my kids (which I need to do anyway), and they loved the book, but it was about something I really deeply love and find meaningful, and reading it was like a prayer for me? And that’s when I really understood how amazing Audacious Ignatius was going to be for me.

And my kids always ask a million questions while I’m reading! And it’s so fun to have a book that when they ask questions, I’m like, oh fascinating question! I’m super interested to talk about that. (Not that I don’t love discussing construction trucks, but you know…)

And the rhyming words ALWAYS get stuck in your head, but I LOVE it when it happens with this book because the words are so joyful and prayerful, it’s like I have this lovely, playful prayer running through my head for the rest of my day, and it’s just so lovely!

So maybe you’re at a point in your life where you don’t have a ton of time to sit down and pray silently, but you can read this book, and it will give you a few minutes to read something with spiritual depth and substance, and that can totally change the tone of your day. Reading this book is always a breath of fresh air for me, and I hope it’s the same for you!
